Generalist PI Expert's Role in Psychological Injury - Dr Mark Burgin

16/05/19. Dr. Mark Burgin BM BCh (oxon) MRCGP explains how physical experts can learn simple techniques that GPs experts use to answer the court’s questions in PI.

The present MedCo system allows physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons, A and E specialists and GPs offer prognoses on psychological injury following a few hours of training.

Some experts have questioned their expertise and have recommended that a psychological expert is involved, sometimes as little as a few weeks following the injury.

General Practitioners (GPs) claim expertise in psychological problems because they have undergone training and they have experience of managing mental health issues.

The skills that GPs use are relatively simple and are easy to learn and physical experts can be trained to confidently take on a larger role in Psychological Injury.

I have broken the key skills down into sections and estimated the learning requirements based upon an average expert, GP experts also average 10 hours of ongoing psychological CPD a year...
